When we lose our peace and just can’t seem to find that space of rest in our lives, may we always go to the source of peace, The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ. All other spaces of rest are illusions and counterfeits, they don’t last and most certainly lead to more lack of peace and rest. The only way to still our hearts is by meditating on what is true. All the promises of God are true, they will never fail.
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. ~ 2 Corinthians 1: 20
Command quiet in your mind, heart and spirit with a quiet and gentle voice. Invite peace, purity, and promise. Rest in the irrevocable truth that God will never give us more than we can handle. Whatever is going on may feel like it’s too much, just know that it will never be more than you can bear.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. ~ 1 Corinthians 10: 13
Rest in the knowledge that the power of God is activated by our weakness. The world says be embarrassed and ashamed of your weakness. Hold your head low because you are weak and broken. The beautiful truth is that God is closest to us in our time of hurting. A loving Father comforting us with His endless love.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” ~ Psalm 34: 18
Rest in the promise that our strength is greater than any heavy load that we carry, because when we get weak, the strength of God takes over.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weakness, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. ~ 2 Corinthians 12: 9 - 10
Rest in the truth that nothing can destroy us. All efforts to harm us will fail. We are covered by a hedge created by the Almighty, nothing and no one can destroy us. We shall live and sing His praises until the King of Kings calls us home.
We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. ~ 2 Corinthians 4: 8 - 9
Rest in the promise that no child of God will ever beg for bread. God is our provider, we need not worry. Our ancestors, the Israelites received manna from heaven in the wilderness. Even if the economies of the world collapse, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He remains in control.
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging for bread. ~ Psalm 37: 25
Rest as a sheep in the presence of the Great Shepherd.
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
For you are with me;
Your rod and your staff comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
~ Psalm 23
Amen
