The Formula That Makes Messaging Feel Effortless and Magnetic

Updated: Sep 24

The missing piece in the growth strategy of most small businesses isn’t visibility, but alignment?

We've made our business a commodity (as my friend says, "just another can of beans') by operating at the tactical level.

If you've been jumping on trends without seeing any real business benefits, try this!

Find the heart of your business and watch your business growth explode.

A Unique Perspective

Most business growth methods start externally. Get more visibility. Build an affiliate program. Offer a certification... And those are all wonderful, except that if you don't start with the core of the business, all those other efforts require WAY more work and time before they make any kind of money sense.

How do you find the heart of your business?

Nothing mysterious here. The heart of any business is to serve. And, I don't mean, "We help women over 40 finally lose the belly fat from their childbearing years." Pretty good messaging, but we'll get into that in another post. We're going to do better than that.

Here's the formula:

The heart ❤️ + Worldview Alignment = Breakthrough messaging = Business growth 🚀

THE HEART ❤️

There's a heart posture or intention behind the way your business serves its target clients. As the founder, the driving force begins with you. What is the core of what you do? Take away all the frills and fluff. For example, my business exists to empower female entrepreneurs. 1 word: Empower. Another business may exist to: Entertain. Another business may exist to: Enlighten. (I just fell into the words with the letter E trap 😆- the mind of a writer!) These are just examples. The point is: Clarity! 💥

Any action that takes the business away from its core is an automatic NO! For me, my question for all opportunities becomes: Does this EMPOWER?

Your small business is an entity with an identity.

When we create this identifying boundary, the ripple effects carve out our space in the marketplace. We're NOT just another can of beans. Our prospective clients aren't confused about who we are or what we do, but more importantly, we don't get caught up in shiny objects land. We're on a mission!

WORLDVIEW ALIGNMENT

A worldview is your perspective. Some may call this a philosophy. For example, Apple's philosophy is technology designed around the user, with a simple and minimalist design. Everything Apple does is about the user, then the design, then the technology - in that order. It sounds simple, but many companies focus on the latest technology rather than the user. That's why people set up tents around the block in the middle of the night in anticipation of the latest iPhone release.

The philosophy is the energy of the client experience.

When we don't have a philosophy, then we're in commodity land. We're just selling another course or program or coaching. This is brutal!

My worldview is for Christian women who are faith, family, and business - in that order- to build a legacy. The people who share that worldview should feel right at home in that space. It was designed for them. So, what's your worldview?

In the same way, a person from Zimbabwe (like myself) will invite a guest into my worldview. It's not confronting. It's this is our staple food, sadza. I'm feeding the guests' curiosity as well as creating an appetite to know more. Now, the guest can ask me questions. "How do you prepare that? What do you eat it with? What does it taste like? Where can I get some?" BINGO! There's a sense of hospitality and comfort surrounding this interaction.

When our actions display the heart of our business, we're in the realm of marketing that doesn't feel like marketing. We're sharing our culture.

🎯Marketing that doesn't feel like marketing.

Other examples of world views can be frameworks or intellectual property (IP), as I share my framework in this blog. I invite you to follow my thinking and worldview. Other world views can be based on philosophy, science, or art history. It's more than sharing why you do what you do. It's peeling back the layers of your process. Can you see it's beyond getting attention? It's nurturing a relationship. If you're reading this, you're getting to know me and my business.

Transparency = Authenticity

BREAKTHROUGH MESSAGING

Our worldview has to be aligned with our heart posture: Does this [insert clarity word]?

Now this is where the fun begins! I wish I could say you instantly land on the perfect messaging. You don't. If you've been reading my blog for some time, you know that marketing is all about testing. Testing. And did I say testing?

The point of this whole exercise is to avoid testing random things that we 1. don't believe in and 2. have nothing to do with the intention behind the business.

Again,

The heart ❤️ + Worldview Alignment = Breakthrough messaging = Business growth 🚀

Breakthrough messaging happens when the heart of your business and your worldview are in sync, and you boldly express them in your content, offers, and client experience. It's messaging that feels deeply authentic, connects with the right people, and cuts through the noise. It builds trust, creates belonging, and invites transformation.

Example:

Empower ❤️ + [ Faith, family, business --building legacy]

Messaging I would test:

  • "If you're a woman of faith, I know you're not here to play small. You're on assignment to mind your business and be fruitful."

  • "Stewardship begins in your quiet place, it's tested in the mundane of taking care of your family, and it shines in growing a business that multiplies your impact. Neither of these is less important."

Messaging I would not test:

  • "POV. The soft life."

  • "Get paid while you sleep."

  • " Steal my secrets and make them work for you. It's TOO simple."

There's nothing wrong with these; they work, but not for this specific business. They represent different worldviews.

Most people start at the end of this process with the tactical messaging, copying what's working for others. The only problem is that prospective clients get to your website and feel that they're in the wrong place. We misrepresented ourselves.

APPLY THE FORMULA

I suggest blocking out some time in your schedule to work through this quick exercise. The next time someone asks you about your business, you'll have a compelling message to share.
